But the process of formation of this work has not been fully elucidated. Recently, the authors of this monograph have found 221 accurately reproduced illustrations in Yokusai's own hand, from the Dutch botanical work by Abraham Munting of the seventeenth century. While the precise title is "Naauwkeurige Beschryving der Aardgewassen (Accurate Descriptions of Botany)", this work was popular among Japanese Dutch scholars as "Aarudogewassen". Although it is well known that it was introduced into Japan at the end of eighteenth century, there have been no reports on the existence of the original text at that time nor of hand-written copies. Therefore, for the present, Yokusai's are the only existing copies of Munting's "Aarudogewassen" in Japan. We attempted to analyze these newly discovered copies and examine quotations in "Somoku Zusetsu" from Munting's original text. It is possible that producing this reproduction provided the motive for writing "Somoku Zusetsu".}, pages = {52--69}, title = {<一般論文>ミュンチング著『アールドゲワッセン』の飯沼慾斎による模写図について}, volume = {43}, year = {1994} }
